The Hindi word "Ratnagiri" literally translates to "Pearl Mountain", a reference to the dense silver oak canopy that protects this farm and the coffee beans from the direct sun. Established in 1920, Ratnagiri is owned and operated by Ashok Patra, which has been passed down from grandfather to father and father to son. Ashok describes this coffee as follows:
"This is a Red Honey coffee and comes from two blocks on our farm and is mainly a Cavery variety. The coffee is dehulled and aerobically fermented and slowly dried for 26 days on raised benches."
For all intents and purposes, Ratnagiri Estate is an organic/biodynamic farm and maintains official Rainforest Alliance certification. Soil quality and nutrient content are tested every quarter. Ionic sea water and seaweed extract are applied to improve plant immunity and fruit sugar levels.
This coffee is lightly roasted and is great for alternative coffee preparation, but also for espresso. We also roast Ratnagari Estate Cauvery coffee dark . It is most suitable for espresso and espresso drinks with milk.
